Hello All
I am working on a river restoration project where we want to enhance
spawning areas for largemouth bass and other centrarchids in a large
shallow river in New England.  I am trying to find out details re: size of
gravel/substrate preferred.  I have found only very general information in
USFWS Species Profiles.

A lot of research has been done on salmonids for obvious reasons - I saw
reference to gravel quality in spawning channels for chum salmon in
Wahsignton State:
     40% 0.25-0.75 in.
     45% 0.75-1.5 in.
     15% 1.5-3 in.

I was wondering if anyone had any similar type of breakdown for bass,
perch, or crappie.  Or any names of folks to contact.  Please reply to this
