Query: are you using bait - if so what?

A question regarding my inefficiency in catching many fishes with a
Fyke (hoop) net set in mangroves: our net is about 4 m long, with the
front hoop about 1 m in dia. There are 2 throats, which I guess are
'finger' style, that is, not square. The wings are 5 m long and the
lead is the same length. We fish only one net, and we have lined the
lead and wings with 1/8" mesh to try and catch smaller specimens. The
wings and lead are 2.5 m deep. Our success rate is poor: we have tried
setting the net under and parallel to the shoreline in fringing
mangroves, in small 'creeks and in open ponds, but it seems like we
should be doing better. We are fishing low current, low tidal
amplitude areas. Are there any suggestions out there to improve
catches?
Many thanks.
