I have just finished reading a paper by Lenwood Hall, Susan Finger and
Michael Ziegenfuss about pH death of larval fish in the Chesapeake Bay
area. The paper seemed to indicate that pH stress to larval fish was
greatly related to a rainfall event that fell during the larval stage of
life. It was these small shifts in pH that caused mortality (up to 100% in
some cases). Does anyone out there have any more info on how weather
events (flood, waterdrawl down, cold fronts, etc) could effect larval fish
survival. I know that they are very succeptible to change in their
environment during this time, but it seems like 80-100% mortality is a
little high. What is the normal mortality rate for larval fishes?
Thanks for any help in advance.
