Dear members
The Institute of Freshwater Fisheries in Iceland started in November 1999 research project on behavioural ecology of brown trout (Salmo trutta L.) in Lake Thingvallavatn (size 83 km2 & max depth 114 m). Spawners were equipped with data storage tags (DST 200) to sample paired information on their migration behaviour (depth) and the water temperature experienced. The aim is firstly to get information on the main distribution pattern of the trout, in detail vertically and approximately horizontally and secondly to get information's on some of the relationships and mechanism involved. The results will serve as landmarks in relation to trout migration in future assessments in Lake Thingvallavatn in order to conserve the trout stock(s). More information on the project can be found at: http://www.star-oddi.com/trout-tagging.htm
Best regards Baldur Sigurgeirsson
