(Sorry for cross-postings)
Greetings again!!
Since I am in charge of the Section of Hydrobiologics of the National
Council for Protected Areas and we are in need of having researched our
natural resources, if anyone wishes to carry out research here, please
contact me. We can help solve many problems, specialy those with research
permits, collecting permits, and transportation permits.
The species that we consider of great interest to study, because of the
fishing pressure, in the area of Peten are:
Petenia splendida (bay snook)
Dorosoma petenense (Threadfin shad)
Cichlasoma spp. (freshwater cichlids)
Rhamdia guatemalensis (catfish)
Astyanax fasciatus (Mexican tetra)
Melaniris sp.
There are many others, but I will be sending species names later on...
What we need?
Anything related to basic biology, fishing stocks, etc... As a matter of
fact, anything that can help us establish a better fishing regulation. It
seems quiet ridiculous since we could do it, but we can't because we lack
economical resources.
Rivers and Lakes of Peten that are of great importance:
San Pedro River
Usumacinta River
Mopan River
Lake Peten Itza
Lake Salpeten
Lake Macanche
Laguna Perdida ("Lost Lake")
Lake Yaxha (and Sacnab)
Lake Gloria
Lake San Diego
Lake Mendoza
Lake El Repasto
Lake Petexbatun
Lake La Sombra
Lake Ixcoche
Lake Las Pozas
Again, thank you very much for your attention.
Regards,
Arturo
