Thank you all for your help so far. It appears that I should have included a more thorough description of the fish with my request for help with the identification.
Well, here it goes: Dorsal elements: XII, 11
Anal elements: III, 10 with the second spine very strong
Teeth: incisors notched
Pectoral fin extends beyond anal opening when appressed.
Posterior nostril is slit-like.
Body depth/SL : 2.33
Lateral line scales: 43-45 (I admit that I am not very good at counting these).
Coloration: 6 broad dark black bars over length of body. A faint bronze stripe along ventral portion of the body. A dark spot centered on the origin of the lateral line. Dorsal and anal fins dark.
I am not able to post a photo of this fish on the web but I hope that this paints a picture that is a little more clear.
Any guesses?
Thanks again, Bill
