ECOLOGICAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

There are numerous opportunities for applied research to support the
conservation and improvement of ecological quality of streams,
rivers, and aquatic habitats at scales as large as watersheds.
Research and development in this area emerges from the need to assess
and plan restoration measures that affect both the physical
environment and the habitat quality for aquatic biota. This Ph D
level research position will focus on the development and application
of state-of-the-art hydraulic simulation models for assessing the
physical changes associated with stream and river management.
Established methods will need to be employed and advanced through the
use of the newest measurement and modeling methods.  Coordination
with private, state, and federal agencies responsible for river and
water management is expected.  Finally, responsiveness to new funding
opportunities will be expected to increase research and program
capability in ecological engineering.  Considerable project related
travel will be necessary within the United States and sometimes
outside the US.  Supervision of students and employees will be needed
for conducting field measurements, data preparation and quality
control, and research reporting.  Effective interpersonal and
teamwork skills are required as research accomplishments in this area
depend on merging the capabilities and work of physical and
biological scientists. Requirements: Ph D in Engineering to Ecology
or a related combination; Expertise in ecological engineering,
habitat simulation, hydraulic modeling.  Experience developing
simulation models of river channel hydraulics and habitat.  By 4
