All postings to the Fish-Sci should be plain text. Do not attach any
binary files. Do not use html, xml or any other mark-up language.
Do not attach any macros.
This is purely a matter of courtesy to our fellow list subscribers.
Exclusive use of plain text is desirable for two simple reasons.
First, executable files can contain viruses. Plain text cannot.
Second, transmission of binaries and mark-up language presumes all the
recipients have software that can render those files. Fish-Sci is an
international mailing list and we do not need to make any such
assumptions to communicate about our science. Therefore, if you need
to transmit a binary to another Fish-Sci subscriber, please make
arrangements to do so off the list.
You can protect yourself from viruses by running a virus scanner that
checks all incoming files. Good scanners will check and isolate
infected binaries as you attempt to open them.
Thank you!
