Dear Paul,

I support your dropping of fish larvae into alcohol,
too. I caught a lot of fish larvae and killed them by
putting them into 96% ethanol. It is just a matter of
seconds and they are dead.
It is a strange debate if it is "human" to kill a fish
larvae with alcohol. Does anybody ask if e.g. trawling
is "human"? There are no bureaucrats asking commercial
trawlers for something like this. Trawling squeezes
animals to death. This is far more cruel than killing
a fish larvae very fast with alcohol.
You should also think of your health and therefore it
is better not to use formalin. In addition formalin
will make it impossible to work with otoloiths or to
do molecular genetic work after fixation.
