The USDA-ARS Catfish Genetics Research Unit has a postdoctoral position available for physical mapping of the channel catfish genome. The incumbent will develop and map polymorphic DNA markers to improve genome coverage and marker density, and determine chromosomal position of select loci via fluorescence in situ hybridization of DNA probes onto metaphase chromosomes. Incumbent will have access to a catfish genetic linkage map based on microsatellite markers, cosmid and BAC genomic libraries, several cDNA libraries, medium and high-throughput fluorescence-based DNA sequencers, and a fluorescent photomicroscope equipped with a cooled CCD color camera for low level fluorescence detection. The candidate must be a citizen of the United States, a citizen of a country which is a member of a Defense Treaty of which the United States is also a member, e.g., NATO, SEATO, RIO Treaty, or a citizen of countries which the U.S. Congress has specifically exempted from the restricting legislation.
