Position Title:         Assistant Researcher (00RSC11)

Agency/location:        River Studies Center
                        University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and
                        U.S. Geological Survey,
                        Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center
                        La Crosse, WI

Responsibilities:       Investigate fishery resources of deep channels
                        of the upper Mississippi River system by working
                        as the deck supervisor on a trawling boat.

Qualifications:         B.Sc. in biology with an environmental science
                        emphasis, fishery science, or related field.
                        Demonstrated ability and experience to: (1)
                        collect samples of fish using active-capture
                        gears, with experience directing the activities
                        of others preferred, and some evidence of
                        leadership required; (2) identify freshwater
                        fishes of the upper Mississippi River, describe
                        anatomical features of fishes and their
                        function, and age fish; (3) follow QA/QC
                        procedures and record findings accurately and
                        without partiality; (4) participate in year-
                        round field sampling, requiring frequent and
                        extensive travel; and (5) enter and verify data
                        on microcomputers.

Salary:                 $26,675 - 28,000.  Annual appointment.
