A new Pacific Institute occasional paper focusing on the impacts of climate change on cetacean species and the role of the International Whaling Commission in addressing this issue is now available on our site, www.pacinst.org:

Burns, "From the Harpoon to the Heat: Climate Change and the International Whaling Commission in the 21st Century" (2000) (Click on this title in the "What's New" section)

The paper assesses the possible impacts of climate change on cetaceans, the International Whaling Commission's program to address this issue, and the prospects for the IWC and other institutions to protect cetaceans from the potentially serious adverse implications of warming over the next century.
