I haven't noticed if anyone has mentioned it but,

Neira FJ, Miskiewicz AG, Trnski T (1998).  Larvae of temperate
Australian fishes: laboratory guide for larval fish identification.
University of Western Australia Press, Nedlands, pp. 474.

is a good reference.  It is not really a 'text' book, but it does contain
about 10 pages on methods in general.
