A workshop Marine Aquaculture and the Environment: A meeting for
stakeholders in the Northeast, will be held January 11 - 13, 2001 at the
campus of the Univ. Massachusetts Boston. This workshop is designed to
understand the barriers stakeholders experience to the development of
sustainable marine aquaculture and to facilitate a collaborative
approach to address these challenges. The conference will focus on four
areas: 1) impacts on habitats; 2) interactions between cultured and wild
species; 3) mechanisms for building consensus for action among
stakeholders; and 4) effects on marine animals, birds, and
