For everyone's information:
The Computer User Section of the American Fisheries Society maintains a
peer-reviewed software library and a directory of fisheries-related (and
other types) on our website at www.fisheries.org/cus. The section is
interested in promoting the application of computer technology to
fisheries issues. We publish a newsletter electronically twice a year,
with a monthly, topical e-notes letter to members. I encourage anyone
looking for fisheries or ecology specific software to visit our website.
Our links include the Ecology Software server, where Biotools, the subject
of this week's software request resides.
The section interests include Fisheries GIS, database management, analysis
tools, and the internet.
The software library is currently maintained by Darren M. Benjamin
<[log in to unmask]>. It includes freeware, shareware, and a
few commercial programs.
The website is maintained Joe Mion <[log in to unmask]>. Forward
corrections, and new links for software or other fisheries/computer topics
to Joe for inclusion on the site.
Contact Gary Ash <[log in to unmask]> to arrange to have software reviewed by the
section. These reviews are published in our newsletter.
The website, software library, and software reviews are supported by
membership in the section. I encourage you to contact our secretary,
Stu Shipman <[log in to unmask]> to join. Or mark the Computer User
Section when renewing your AFS membership.
If you have other questions about the Computer User Section, refer them to
