Dear listers,
I'm assesing some early life history traits of reef fishes of the
Tropical Eastern Pacific based on the analysis of the otolith
microstructure. During the extraction of the otoliths I found two
individuals from two different species with four pairs of otoliths (i.e.
one pair more than normal).
I have made an extensive literature revision and i have found only one
report about Aberrant sagittae formation in Morone saxatilis (Copeia 1978,
No 4: 712-713).
Has anyone found such abnormal formation of more than three pairs of
otoliths in a single individual?
Thanks in advanced for your help.
Liz
