Try the part relating to general anatomy of the gills that is in Fish
Physiology, Vol. X part A of the W.S. Hoar and D.J. Randall collection
(Academic Press of London). Otherwise, the book of Ecology of Teleost Fishes by
R.J. Wooton (Chapman and Hall, 1994 reprint) on its page 23 states that the
gill area is a function of body size, and there is also a formula for the
relationship.
