AQUATIC TOXICOLOGIST
DANIEL B. WARNELL SCHOOL OF FOREST RESOURCES UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA
POSITION: Aquatic toxicologist. This is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level (50 % teaching, 50 % research).
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in fisheries biology, aquatic toxicology or related field. Significant interest, knowledge and experience in aquatic biology, with preference for candidates for whom fish are the primary research organism. Commitment to excellent teaching and advisement of undergraduate and graduate students. Experience in designing and conducting independent research and securing research funding is required. Strong oral and written communication skills essential, including ability to publish in leading peer-reviewed journals.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach a one-semester course in fish physiology and other undergraduate and graduate courses developed in cooperation with other faculty to support the fisheries program within the School. Assist other faculty in developing an interdisciplinary research program on water quality and environmental impacts of land use and other human activities on aquatic organisms. Collaborate with faculty in the fisheries program, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Cooperative Unit, the Interdisciplinary Program in Toxicology as well as faculty in hydrology, ecology and forestry.
THE UNIVERSITY: The University of Georgia is a land grant institution comprised of 15 schools and colleges including the Graduate School. Warnell School of Forest Resources is a professional school with 64 faculty, 240 upper division undergraduates, and 150 graduate students. The School offers the Bachelor of Science degree with majors in forestry, wildlife, fisheries, and forest environmental resources. Graduate degrees offered in Master of Forest Resources, Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy. The School maintains a 740-acre research forest near campus and 23,000 acres of forest land across the state for teaching, research and service activities.
