Hello,
Pez Arana
This seems to be the common name for the fish known as the Greater Weever in English, Trachinus draco.
There is the first account I have come across of someone being stung by this fish at:
http://cbr.nc.us.mensa.org/homepages/BMLSS/weever2.htm#Greater Weever (upload 5 July 2001).
The identification of this fish is confrmed, but what other stinging fish are there from the Canary Islands, in shallow water ? because there is also the report of a swimmer who died after being stung. It could very well by the fish in the first report came from reasonably close inshore.
Cheers
