A 1998 survey of the oyster(Crassostrea virginica) population on an
exploited reef in Mobile Bay, Alabama, USA reported the following size distribution:
10.1 - 25.4 mm 70.4/sq-m
25.5 - 50.8 mm 56.6/sq-m
50.9 - 76.2 mm 18.3/sq-m
76.3 - 101.6mm 5.7/sq-m
>101.6 0.6/sq/m
Mean height was 32.8 mm and the range was 10.1 - 128.2 mm
Harvestable size is = to or greater than 76.2 mm
