Mai,
The greatest threat to coral reefs is probably pollution, in the form of
nutrient enrichment and sedimentation. These "methods" have damaged large
areas of coral reefs in many parts of the world. Another method would be
the causative agent in coral bleaching (and subsequent death) which has
been observed in many areas, and was particularly widespread in the
Caribbean recently. The cause is not well understood, but may be related
to high temperatures, viruses, or possibly iron deficiencies.

Dynamite fishing, anchor dragging, dredging and other destructive
mechanical methods also contribute to coral reef destruction, but are
probably relatively small impacts when compared to coral bleaching and
pollution.
