Ph.D. Graduate Research Assistantship (Physiological Ecology)
University of British Columbia
Vancouver, B.C.

Responsibilities: Research will contribute to a multi-agency investigation
of the spatial and temporal intersection in bathythermal habitat use of
Great Lakes fishes.  Recording depth-temperature tags will be used to
describe the diel and seasonal patterns of bathythermal habitat use by the
predatory sea lamprey in Lake Huron. Project will also require student to
design experiments to determine the effects of implanted archival tags on
immune responses to surgical procedures and on swimming performance of sea
lampreys, lake trout, lake whitefish, and chinook salmon.  This project
requires extensive collaboration with state, provincial, and federal
fisheries agencies and the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, as well as with
commercial and sport fisheries.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a B.S. in biology, zoology, fishery
science, or related field and 3.0 GPA.  After initial screening, the
successful candidate will submit a formal graduate school application.

Closing date: Until filled; September 1, 2002 start date anticipated.
