The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council has issued its Invitation to Submit Restoration Proposals for FY 2003: Phase II via the web at http://www.oilspill.state.ak.us/admin/index.html . In 1989, the T/V Exxon Valdez spilled 11 million gallons of crude oil into Prince William Sound. In 1991, the U.S. District Court approved a civil settlement that required Exxon Corporation to pay the United States and the State of Alaska $900 million to restore the resources injured by the spill, and the reduced or lost services (human uses) the resources provide. Under the court-approved terms of the settlement, a Trustee Council of three federal and three state members administers the restoration fund to restore the resources and services injured by the spill. Each year the Trustee Council invites individuals, private industry, government agencies, and other interested parties to submit proposals for projects to be included in the annual work plan. Potential proposers are encouraged to download the invitation from the web. The invitation solicits proposals to begin implementation of GEM (Gulf of Alaska Ecosystem Monitoring & Research Program). It identifies specific proposals that are being solicited and specific instructions for submitting proposals. Proposals are due September 4, 2002.
