I would like to know if there is a difference in life history between
Pagrus pagrus from the western Atlantic and the eastern Atlantic. Is
growth rate, age at maturity, fecundity, maximum size etc. the same for
the species on both sides of the Atlantic?

I find there is a difference in pigmentation between the sparids from
each side of the Atlantic. Pagrus pagrus form the eastern Atlantic has
white tips to the caudal fin but, from memory, I believe that Pagrus
pagrus from the western Atlantic does not.

Are there any notable differences between the species on either side of
the Atlantic?

The reason I am asking these questions is because we have seen quite a
few Pagrus pagrus in Guernsey waters in the last five years. Local
fishermen have been catching them regularly in recent weeks so I would
like to write about them for a column on marine life that I have in our
local newspaper.

I have found some information on Pagrus pagrus life history from the WWW
but I am particularly interested in comparing the eastern and western
Atlantic forms of this species.

Some contacts on people who have studied this fish would be useful also.
Is it currently being farmed and if so where is it being farmed?

Thank you for information you can provide.

Yours sincerely,
Richard
