Hello All,
I am a mere hobbyist, not a scientist, but I seek more knowledge and enjoy
discovering small things, just the same. In my thirst to be a better
hobbyist, I am starting exploration of freshwater microscopic aquarium
life. Can anyone recommend texts that would help me learn some of the
things I want to know?
I have seen books for pond life exploration and texts on microbiology--that
is ones that are off target and ones that are over my head as well as off
target. I have some hobbyist-level books on freshwater tropical fish
diseases and parasites (texts by authors such as Untergasser, Post, and
Andrews).
I'm looking for texts that would give more focused, pertinent information
regarding freshwater tropical life.
My goals are to learn what is in the tanks and fish that is:
1. Beneficial, as "janitorial life" and/or as food
2. Neutral, just going about the business of life and having no relevant
or significant impact on environment or inhabitants
3. Parasitic
4. Bacterial, beneficial and otherwise
My microscope is a binocular phase contrast Fisher Scientific MicroMaster I
(made by Western Scientific I believe) with 10x, 25x, 40x and 100x
objectives and 10x eyepieces. It does not have any measuring reticules.
Thank you.
Charlotte Marelius
