Subject: ADMIN: Replies to list

Since Mark sent his comment to the entire list, I'll respond to the full
list as well. The question of whether we should set the default reply
address to the list or to the poster has come up before, and it is true that
most lists set the default reply to the poster. In the case of FISH-SCI, the
consensus (which was far from unanimous) was that maintaining a lively
discussion was a high priority, and for a discussion list it is best if the
replies go to the list. The down side of this is of course too many personal
messages appearing on the list, but at the present level of traffic I think
that the policy is working OK. However, we can always change it.

I encourage anyone who has strong feelings about this to write to me or to
[log in to unmask] rather than post to the entire list. If
there is a strong movement for a change in this or any other list policy the
list owners will poll the list members.

William Silvert, co-owner, FISH-SCI list
