    Summary of Position

    Conduct research at sea and in the labs; maintain instrument; analyze
results for publication and presentation. This position will involve
biological sampling, materials preparation, database work, word processing,
and interaction with the fishing community.


    Responsibilities

    Prepare instrument for use at sea or in the lab; conduct research at sea
on board fishing or research vessels with occasional trips as long as 10
days at sea on board a vessel; conduct research in the lab; and analyze
research data. Specific duties include participating research project on
trawling, traps, gillnets and other fishing gears and observe fish behavior
near fishing gear and in open sea; using video photographic, and acoustic
instruments in monitoring gear and fish; sampling and measuring fish and
shellfish from catch; analyzing video and other data using various software
and statistical packages. This position requires travel to various fishing
ports and may require work during non-traditional hours.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in an engineering or scientific field related to the
technical work performed or Associate degree in an engineering or scientific
field related to the technical work performed and two years of work
experience utilizing appropriate research or engineering techniques or high
school graduation including courses in physics, mathematics or other
technical fields and at least four years of technical experience in
Engineering or related technology appropriate to the department to be
served. Sufficient manual dexterity to perform duties of position. Must be
able to wear and use personal protective equipment, as necessary.


    Additional Desirable Qualifications

    Add or remove text as needed Working knowledge of data processing
equipment and techniques. Ability to use calculators and/or other equipment.
Working knowledge of data processing equipment and techniques. Working
knowledge of engineering or technical methods/procedures. Preference will be
given to individuals with knowledge of fishing gear and with at-sea research
experience.
