Dear Pedro,
In the US, there is one major company, Smith-Root, Inc. and several very
small firms that make electrofishing equipment. One manufacturer that you
may not have heard of but that makes proven quality equipment, is
Engineering Technical Services (ETS) at the University of Wisconsin. We
have put oscilloscopes on a few of the ETS units and have found that the
waveforms are very good and are true to the controls (what you dial in is
what you get). The ETS backpack units have good controls (10-1000 pulses
per second, 0 - 100 % duty cycle, voltage ranges from 0 - 300 and 300 -
600, all continuous), good metering (peak voltage, peak amperage, and
battery voltage meters [LCD display]), have performed well in the field,
are more easily serviced (uses a typical 12 volt battery and many
components can be fixed in the field or locally), and are less expensive
(cost around 3,200 USD).
One caveat is that the ETS units are not configured to effectively
electrofish in low conductivity waters (less than 100 microseimens/cm).
The engineer at ETS, Burke O'Neal, is very good and easy to talk with.

Dear all,
We're considering purchasing a backpack electroshocker. We've done
the usual browsing of webpages, but we'd be extremely grateful for
any feedback from the user community. We need the equipment to be as
light weight as possible and would appreciate any suggestions, tips,
etc.
Thanks in advance
