This webforum "RUAF-IOBB Urban Agriculture in Africa" is a result from
the E-symposium on "Economic aspects on the use of Biotechnologies and
Bioengineering in Urban Agriculture by African Households" (01-30 June
2005 http://www.iobbnet.org/drupal/forum/102). The e-symposium was
sponsored by Resource Centre on Urban Agriculture and Forestry (RUAF),
the Netherlands. RUAF is now sponsoring 40 Africans to continue the
discussion on urban agriculture in Africa until the end of 2006. IOBB is
pleased to cooperate with RUAF and will provide the virtual space
(webforum and email lists) needed as well as to facilitate the
participation of Africans.
IOBB's special interest is on the practice of biotechnology and
bioengineering methods that can enhance eco-productivity in urban
agriculture and to see how we can achieve a sustainable habitat with the
integration of urban agriculture and other urban activities (e.g. waste
management, greening of the city, etc. ).
