Hello Jessica (and the list), I used a small gauge hypodermic needle and non-toxic latex paints on yellowfin shiners in streams near Clemson, South Carolina, with much success (and VERY little expense). Most of the tags were recognizable for over 12 months, and those that had lost some paint still had paint flecks in recognizable scar tissue. I'd be happy to talk with you about it directly if you like. Please give me a call at 517-432-3090 or you can e-mail me directly at [log in to unmask] The methods I used are provided in Goforth and Foltz 1998 Ecology of Freshwater Fish. I can provide a reprint if you like. Best wishes, Reuben ****************************************************************** Reuben R.
