Hi,

My name is Jessica Skyfield. I am a Master's student at the University of
Georgia in Gary Grossman's lab. My thesis will focus on gilt darter
(Percina evides) microhabitat use and its fitness coorelates. I plan on
doing a mark-recapture study and am wondering about marking techniques. I
know about the bio-compatibility of Visible Implant Elastomer, but am
shocked by the price both for the paint and the application gun.

Thus, does anyone out there have

1) tried and true methods for applying paint (i.e., a hypodermic needle)
aside from the implant gun?

2) does anyone have paint/elastomer suggestions, for instance, I have
found Day-Glo Color Corporation out of Cleveland and have heard people use
one of their products to mark fish, but have not heard of the bio-
compatibility or any quantifiable results. But other suggestions/avenues
could also be suggested!

Thanks,
Jessica
