If anyone cares to speculate on the species of fish, I'd be interested in knowing what it might be.
Might be worth checking with the any local fishing communities, they are often a valuable source of knowledge on such "fish lore". The most obvious suggestion has to be a Sciaenid, the common names of "Drum" or "Croakers" is self-explanatory. Toadfish are also known to be noisy beasts, but these tend to be sedentary, males displaying around a suitable spawning site.
