Any guesses as to the identity of the sound source would be pure speculation
at this point, as many species are known to be vocal, and many many more are
probably vocal in the area. Marie Fish and William Mowbray recorded sounds
from the area many years ago which they published in their 1970 book (you
can view a list of species from my web site at
http://www.fishecology.org/soniferous/soundposter.htm). Many of their
sounds can now be downloaded from the fishbase web site and from URI's web
site (http://www.dosits.org/dosits.htm). Its fine to speculate as to the
source as a first step, but it would be better to investigate and find out
for sure (easier said than done).
Good luck,
Rodney
