SYMPOSIUM ECOLOGY OF STREAM FISH: STATE OF THE ART AND FUTURE PROSPECTS - II First ANNOUNCEMENT Following the Luarca’s Symposium held on 13-17 April 1998, we are happy to announce the celebration of a Second International Symposium on the “Ecology of Stream Fish” to be held in Leon (Spain), on 12-16 June 2006 Background - Ecologically-oriented interdisciplinary research has provided critical insight into the dynamic processes of stream fishes. Such interdisciplinary research has proved essential to develop models for the management of these complex ecosystems, and for the preservation of genomes, populations, and species. Tracking the interdisciplinary perspective of the Luarca’s meeting, this new Symposium not only attempts to review, evaluate and synthesize the existing knowledge on the Ecology of Stream Fish, but also to identify gaps of knowledge and to highlight venues of future research. To meet these goals, the Symposium will be divided into the following sections: - Regulatory processes in populations and assemblages - Life-History tactics and strategies - Landscape Approaches to Stream Fish Ecology, - The importance of Genetics and Behavior in Ecology - Ecological approaches to conservation and management of stream fishes with relevance to endangered Species SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS Scientific contributions that identify, review or synthesize major research issues, or suggest new research venues are preferred. Participants are invited to present their contributions as oral presentations or posters. However, due to organizational limitations, a maximum of 100 oral presentations will be allowed. All other presentations will be necessarily presented as posters. In any case, the Scientific Committee will take a final decision. PUBLICATIONS OF SELECTED PRESENTATIONS Selected, peer-reviewed papers will be published in the journal “Ecology of Freshwater Fish”.
