Recent significant developments in EU Asylum and Immigration policy

The Academy of European Law (ERA) is preparing a conference on the recent significant developments in EU Asylum and Immigration policy which is scheduled to take place on 25-26 November 2005 in Roma, Italy.

This seminar will look at the main challenges presented by the 'Hague Programme'. It will focus on a discussion of the latest initiatives and numerous measures taken by the EU to manage migration flows more effectively. The attempts to set up a common asylum policy and refugee rights will be subject of the conference. Whilst looking mainly to the future, the seminar will also review from a legal perspective the achievements of EU immigration and asylum policy since Tampere 1999.

As a stronger emphasis on co-operation with third countries is obvious from the 'Hague Programme' the seminar will be of great interest not only to lawyers, judges and legal representatives from EU countries but also to those from third countries involved in these co-operation initiatives.

Please find the draft programme and the names of invited speakers. See http://www.era.int
