Dear colleagues:
I have a question of limnolgical nature: I have conducted some limno work
at a lake in the Arctic (Baffin Island) and found the pH of the water to
be alkaline (8-9). The bedrock is granitic which should result in more
acidic pH. The till in the area has not a lot of carbonic sources as far
as I know. Measurements were taken during spring (April, so not much
photosynthesis took place). I have difficulty trying to explain the
alkaline nature of the water since there is not much water contributed to
the small lake by creeks. Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated.
