This maybe an odd question.

I have been playing around with a system dynamics model of a managed fishery
with a fish stock based on a (very) modified surplus production model. This
includes separate inflows for recruited biomass and for growth biomass.

I began wondering about the mean age of biomass in the stock (which can be
easily determined (at least in equilibrium) and its relation to the fraction
of growth that would be obtained from recruitment.

Obviously as the mean age in the stock drops the fraction of new biomass
from recruitment rises (an important management issue). What exactly is
that relationship? Or is there no easy answer.

I thought you would all have fun thinking about this.

Richard
