Hi Summer:
I've used a hypodermic needle to inject acrylic (not latex) paints
(from an art supply store) just under the skin of a fairly wide
variety of small fishes with variable success. It works great with
some spp/sizes and poorly with others. You'll need to experiment, but
I'd encourage you to try. In my experience, you're approaching the
practical lower size limits at 70 mm, but it's worth trying nonetheless.
Most recently I was able to purchase a new (?) type of acrylic paint
that was unusually low viscosity. The usual acrylic paint in my
experience is like toothpaste and had to be diluted some form of
sterile saline. The new stuff works very well.
