There are two chum salmon ESUs (Evolutionary Significant Units) that are
listed as threatened in the U.S., but other chum stocks are fished
regularly.

My wife showed up with a surprising package that claims to be smoked wild 
chum salmon (Oncorynchus keta) from Canada. Since it is rare to see smoked 
wild salmon, especially here in Portugal, I checked the NOAA website and see

that this species is listed as endangered. Can anyone provide some 
background information on this?
