Hi Bill and F-S subscribers,

In fact, the chum salmon fisheries of British Columbia are healthy and are
in assessment for certification under the Marine Stewardship Council
sustainable fishing certification program.

More info on the certification process is available at
http://www.msc.org/html/content_1437.htm.

I received quite a few off-list replies from F-S subscribers and I thank you

all. To summarise, chum almon are not endangered in the Canadian part of
their range, although there may be problems further south (Columbia River
stocks for example), and I can enjoy my smoked salmon with a clear
conscience.
