I'm hoping that the Fish-Sci community can give me the benefit of their expertise.

I have been asked to provide some fish samples for subsequent analyses of PCBs and Polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (dioxins).
I had the impression that samples, once taken, should be stored at -80°C to prevent loss of labile compounds.
I follow this approach for fatty acid work for example, and it seems to make sense to me for any compounds that are likely to be associated with lipids.

However, one of the labs I have contacted regarding the analyses clearly stated that freezing at -20°C was sufficient.


Comments/pointers to literature/procedures etc much appreciated!
