Hi, I suppose Bill meant the "grey" mullets (Mugilidae). they are fairly successfully farmed (mainly extensive, lagoon, culture-based enhanced fisheries) in the Mediterranean area. There is a lot of literature since the 1980s, with French, Italian, Spanish, North African and Israeli scientists fosusing on these aspects. Quite a few FAO Technical papers were also published on the matter. Try to google "Fabio Massa", "Adriano Mariani", "Stefano Cataudella", "Remigio Rossi" for their present addresses and contacts: these guys should be able to provide you with lots of info.
cheers,
Stefano
