*Notice of Recruitment: Ph.D. Graduate Research Assistantship in Fishery
Science, University of Alaska Fairbanks, Juneau Center, School of
Fisheries and Ocean Sciences*

*Research focus:* This Ph.D. dissertation research is involves a
project, titled /"Multi-species Biomass Dynamics Model for the eastern
Bering Sea",/ with co-PIs Gordon Kruse and Franz Mueter. The goal is to
examine multi-species interactions among a group of commercially
important fish and invertebrate species. The model will include 3-5
species or species groups (functional groups) for which there is
evidence of covariation and based on life-history characteristics of
each species (diet, habitat requirements, timing of spawning, etc.). In
addition to interaction terms among species, such as competition and
predation, the model will be extended to include shared climate effects
on productivity and on the strength and magnitude of predator-prey or
competitive interactions.

*Starting date:* Fall 2009 (or until filled).

*Qualifications:* The incumbent must have a master's degree in a
fisheries-related field, meet requirements for the UAF graduate school
and the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, and have a strong
background and interest in quantitative fisheries, good communication
and interpersonal skills, and a strong work ethic. Experience with
statistical modeling, simulation modeling, and computer programming is
an asset.

*Salary:* $23.02 per hour during first 9 month academic year (20 hr/wk),
then $23.02/hr during summer (40 hr/wk). Once the student passes a
comprehensive examination and files for advancement to candidacy, the
salary increases to $25.53 per hour. Funding also covers tuition
