The Dhofar Fisheries Research Centre (DFRC), Ministry of Fisheries, Sultanate
of Oman, is seeking an energetic, experienced fisheries scientist to join its
stock assessment team to participate in a research project to investigate the
biology and stock characteristics of selected commercial fish species.

Under the general supervision of the Director General of Fisheries Research
and the direct supervision of the Director of the DFRC, the expert will actively
participate and provide technical support, plan, develop, implement, and
evaluate research projects and activities of the DFRC.

Detailed Job Responsibility:
-Investigate the biology and stock characteristics of selected species of
fishes in the assigned area.
-Conduct and participate in field work and identify and quantify the key
fishery resources of the region.
-Participate, plan, develop, conduct and evaluate fisheries management and
research projects and activities, or researching, analyzing, and consulting on
specific fishery issues or species impacting divisional operations and position
statements.
-Analyzes field data and makes recommendations based on analysis results.
-Perform other related duties as required.
Essential qualifications:
-Ph.D. in Marine Biology/ Fisheries/ or in a related discipline.
-Considerable knowledge and experience in fisheries biology, fish population
dynamics and fish stock assessment.
-Ability to statistically analyze and draw logical conclusions for development of
fisheries management advisories.
-Aquatic hydrography and plankton identification.
-Ability to use standard computer software to analyze scientific data.
Desirable qualifications:
-Thorough knowledge of fish species and characteristics, biological and
harvest variables.
-Experience with using Fisheries Management Science Programme (FMSP).
-Experience with oceanographic instruments (CTD, ADCP) and Histology
techniques.
-Previous work experience in Indian Ocean region/tropical seas.

Remuneration:
-Salary and other benefits will be tax free in addition to free medical
treatment in government hospitals in Oman.
-Round trip air ticket yearly.
