Attached please find a short description of two vacancies for stock
assessment scientists in the Population Dynamics Branch at the Northeast
Fisheries Science Center in Woods Hole MA. Applications are welcome; please

We’re looking for highly motivated quantitative biologists, mathematicians
or statisticians interested in working on significant fisheries science
issues in the Northeast United States.  Specifically, we’re looking for
individuals with strong capabilities in modern methods of fisheries stock
assessment.  You’ll work in a collaborative environment with an outstanding
team of professionals.  The fisheries of the Northeast are among the
nation’s most valuable and the Northeast Fisheries Science Center has one of
the world’s longest and best time-series of fishery-independent surveys.  

The successful applicants will serve as Research Fishery Biologists or
Operations Research Analysts for the Population Dynamics Branch.  Major
tasks will include the design, development, and implementation of
mathematical and statistical methods to stock assessments of
commercially-important fishery resources. One of the positions will focus on
assessment of invertebrate resources; the other will focus on assessment of
pelagic species.  Research results are published in peer-reviewed scientific
journals and technical reports.   Successful applicants will have
exceptional writing and speaking skills, and mastery of one or more
programming languages.   Experience in conducting stock assessments and a
strong publication record are highly valued.  Incumbents are also expected
to participate in a NOAA R/V survey cruise annually. 

These vacancies are cross-listed as both Research Fishery Biologist and
Operations Research Analysts at two different pay bands: ZP-III or ZP-IV
with an overall salary range of   $61,425 to $134,492.  All applications
