4th Workshop on Gonadal Histology of Fishes
 16-19 June 2009, El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, Spain


Abstracts (300 words or less) are solicited for oral and poster presentations related to the reproduction of marine teleosts, freshwater teleosts and elasmobranchs.

Registration is free if abstracts are received by April 15, 2009 


There will be four Symposia sessions, a session for contributed presentations and a poster session.   


Opening Keynote: The utility of gonadal histology in studies of fish reproduction and the subsequent management of fisheries and ecosystems, by Dr. Olav S. Kjesbu (Norway)

Symposia themes and keynote speakers:

 

i.   Female and male reproductive strategies: Differences in gametogenesis across species. 

     Keynote Speaker and co-chair: Fran Saborido-Rey (Spain)
     Co-Chair: Hilario Murua (Spain)

ii.  Characterization and differentiation among reproductive phases with an emphasis on fecundity types, skipped spawning and abnormalities.
    Keynote Speaker and co-chair: Rick Rideout (Canada)
    Co-Chair: Jonna Tomkiewicz (Denmark)  

 

iii. Determination of temporal patterns of reproductive activity. 

    Keynote Speaker and co-chair: Susan Lowerre-Barbieri (USA)
    Co-Chair: Kostas  Ganias  (Greece)
 

iv. Reproductive terminology. 
    Keynote Speaker and co-chair: Nancy Brown-Peterson (USA)
    Co-Chair: David Wyanski (USA)






All persons giving oral or poster presentations are required to submit either an extended abstract for publication in the on-line Proceedings or a full manuscript for publication in a special section of Transactions of the American Fisheries Society by July 15, 2009.
