Hake 2010: International Symposium on the Biology, Harvesting, Management and Conservation of Hakes
Portland, Maine, USA. May 11-12, 2010

An international symposium on hake has been organized by the University of New Hampshire together with other collaborating institutions. This two-day symposium will include harvesting, biology and resource management issues concerning hakes on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond.
The symposium will be held in Portland, Maine, USA at Portland Regency Hotel, on May 11 and 12, 2010. You are invited to submit abstracts for oral and/or poster presentations for the symposium. Please see the specified themes/topics on hake species below for guidance.
• Historical and contemporary hake fisheries • Biology, migration, behavior, stock structure, and resource assessment • Gear types and harvesting methods used to harvest hakes • Techniques to reduce bycatch and discards in hake fisheries • Fishery management approaches and challenges • Future directions for science, management and harvesting technologies

Discussions are being made to publish selected full papers in a special volume in Fisheries Research. Registration fee for regular attendees is $200 USD, students $50 USD. Registration fee for commercial fishermen is waived. Additional financial assistance to cover lodging/time is also be available for commercial fishermen by contacting Ms. Smith.
