Dear Gianluca,and other Fish-Members,

I suggest Gianluca should try teasing apart the gut contents after putting them in equal volume of roughly 0.5M (~62 g/L) cysteine or N-acetyl-cysteine.

Cysteine and N-acetyl-cysteine are well-known fluidisers of mucus, as they break apart disulphide bonds which are responsible for most of mucus's gel properties. N-acetyl-cysteine is widely used in medicine for fluidising mucus.

I should like to know how you get on with it, or if other people have used it successfully (or not) for similar purposes.

Cheers,
Ian

> In several guts the contents are enveloped in a fibrous and sticky matrix, which is quite difficult to disentangle, in order to look at the items inside.
> Many items are damaged or dislodged in the process, thus making measurements and ID much more difficult.
