Hello, everyone!

As many of you know, I've been named a finalist in the 2011 Blogging
Scholarship. If I win, I get $10,000 for my shark conservation research at
the University of Miami. It comes down to votes, and I'm currently winning,
but it's going to be close! People can vote every day until noon Pacific
time on November 30th.

 If I win, the money will go towards my dissertation research on the
ecological importance of sharks to coral reefs, and will help support our
lab's citizen science program (which has taken over 1,000 high school
students and teachers into the field to learn about sharks and participate
in an active research program). I will also adopt a satellite tagged shark
in the name of my blog's readers and will let them name the shark through a
contest.

Please vote for me (David Shiffman), and please share the voting page with
friends, colleagues, and fellow ocean lovers (and encourage them to vote
for David Shiffman- just sharing the voting page is not ideal) using
Twitter, Facebook, Facebook fan pages, listservs, blog posts, whatever you
can think of!
