Anyway, stomach content analyses were a popular endeavor a few decades
back when life history studies were in vogue. Some of these papers will be
hard to find except in good libraries.. Some may have been digitized and be
available on line. You might see if you can find Hyslop, E.J 1980. Stomach
contents analysis - a review of methods and their applications. J. Fish.
Biol. 17:411-429. I imagine that the European literature will be a better
area for your search since herring have been a very important fish for a
long time and presumably well studied?
